Stratego

Stratego

1946
On a board of 10×10 squares each player controls 40 pieces representing individual officer ranks in an army. The objective of the game is to find and capture the opponent's Flag, or to capture so many enemy pieces that the opponent cannot make any further moves. Unlike chess, Stratego is a game of incomplete information. In addition to calculated sequences of moves, this gives rise to aspects of battle psychology like concealment, bluffing, lying in wait and guessing. (wikipedia.org)

Actually not that bad. There is a game called Skirmish: Modern Card Warfare that shrinks size to a card game and time by cutting set up/put away time significantly. I'd recommend giving that a try.

This board is too damn small. By the way, my copy of Stratego was procured from an actual garbage dump, and had most of the pieces.

I swear I don't know where the bombs are. Only the miners know that!
