The overall gimmick is interesting - a realistically (by 90s fantasy JRPG standards) depicted military campaign where the status of both sides in terms of lands, armies, castles etc held and the ebb and flow of war is reasonably well considered and believable. HOWEVER… I didn’t much care for the clunky magic system, needlessly silent protagonist, simplistic dungeons, and the “collect 108 characters strewn across the world to see the real ending” thing (some of them missable!)… not for me at all.

not quite as long-ass as its sequel so managed to get through the awful english translation. vaguely interesting world, but i can't say the 'collect 108 characters' gimmick is even remotely interesting to me.
