Ghost of Tsushima (2020) - Rated 23 Jul 2024
"I was worried when it started off with hiding in bushes, picking off guards. I'm not sure how many more open world checklist games I can do. But where this makes up is gorgeous visuals and world, with a very meditative approach to the scenery and way you interact with the world. Great vibes. Combat is some of the best looking and feeling I've ever experienced. Story was OK. Enough to get through the whole main throughline. Can't see myself mopping up the repetitive side content though"
Palworld (2024) - Rated 08 Jul 2024
"Hodge podge of ideas. Fun for a bit, and compelling in that standard open world crafting survival kind of way, with the twist of collectible creatures that lend themselves to some very basic idle/automation mechanics. Iterrupted by a decent amount of jank. Feels relatively empty, both in character and the actual overly large, barren, seemingly AI generated world"
Remnant 2 (2023) - Rated 20 Jun 2024
"Souls-like shooter, with some decent polish. Didn't feel like my character changed too much in my 10-15 hours with it, but mechanics felt solid. The RNG can lead to some frustration--ultimately got stuck on a boss with some bullet sponge modifier that was not fun"
Wartales (2021) - Rated 20 Jun 2024
"Neat, with interesting mechanics. Deep and compelling gameplay loop, but with not much guidance. Can feel overwhelming and confusing at times, with a decent amount of jank. Had to step away after several separate crashes led to hours of progress lost each time"
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes (2024) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"Played 4 hours. Stories and characters interesting, and liked the collection aspect, but combat was pretty old school. Without a personal connection to suidoken, it just felt outdated--expected to auto battle through 99% of the fights. More narrative driven than gameplay"
Kingdom Come: Deliverance (2018) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"Got to monastery, had to pretend to be a monk, suddenly felt more like a museum tour than a video game. Felt lost and fell off after enjoying it for a while. Overall ambitious and neat, but janky. Like a Skyrim at a historically acurate-ish ren faire"
Sifu (2022) - Rated 10 Jun 2024
"Short, sweet, stylish with fun and rewarding mechanics"
