90 71% Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020) - Rated 20 Apr 2024
"It seemed like an impossible task to ever create another protagonist as great as Kazuma Kiryu but they really surprised me with Ichiban, a genuine lovable loser. The move to a turn based battle system to accommodate the friends he makes along the way worked out pretty nicely, adding a whole range or crazy jobs, outfits and special moves. Despite adding a lot more craziness to the franchise the main story still manages to be vert down to earth and heartfelt."

95 90% Shining Force III (1997) - Rated 28 Feb 2021
"One of the most ambitious games ever created, spanning three different scenarios, where decisions you make in one scenario will carry over to the next. Decisions made are not just selecting options either, instead often happening organically from your actions in battle, eg killing or not killing certain enemies. Defeating or attacking certain enemies so they drop items you can send to the next scenario etc. A solid SRPG even putting that aside too."

"We all need to shine on to see how far we've come on our journey!"
90 71% Guardian Heroes (1996) - Rated 19 Jul 2020
"A hybrid of Beat 'em Up and RPG with nearly 50 unlockable characters and a story with branching paths where the decisions you make can shape the story. Great soundtrack too."
95 90% Fighters Megamix (1997) - Rated 19 Jul 2020
"One of the best fighting games ever made with a vast cast of interesting or weird unlockable characters added to the Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers groups."

95 90% Bayonetta (2009) - Rated 09 Jan 2020
"Fun fun FUN non-stop fun from beginning to end it squeezes in fun to the last drop. The cheesy cut scenes and dialogue all add to the style, Even the basics of moving around in this game feel great and it has a wonderful learning curve that leads you into learning about dodging and witch time and into deeper aspects like dodge offset combos. Instead of putting up a boss as a wall where you're forced to "learn the game" to get passed it, this teaches you all through the game with each challenge"
95 90% Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis (2007) - Rated 09 Jan 2020
"What initially seems like a lighthearted fantasy high school anime slowly transforms into something much more complex and dark over the course of the game. The battle system is fast paced while remaining deeply tactical, forcing you to use the skills of both frontline and backline characters, constantly tagging in and out to support attacks and defences. The alchemy system is deep and the grow book makes every action in the game addictive as you earn every bonus in it."
95 90% Final Fantasy VII (1997) - Rated 09 Jan 2020
"A really fleshed out world full of lore, great cast of characters and solid main story. Absolutely tons of side content including secret characters who contribute even more to the plot. The plot has a bunch of twists and turns and to fully understand it you need to fully explore the world and do optional content to get extra scenes that fill in the blanks. The satisfaction of learning something new in a hidden cutscene that you had to go out of your way to find may never exist again."
