It's creative on the surface but a lot of things the game tries to do falls flat - the rhyming dialog becomes tiresome quickly and forces some really awkward wording in the game. On top of the convoluted writing, the plot is overly vague and incomprehensible, making it hard to be invested in the story. The gameplay is nothing special - while the world looks beautiful, its puzzles and platforming are fairly rudimentary while the combat is easy to cheese and exploit with little sense of growth.

It's a polished, beautiful looking game with a good soundtrack. The story is intriguing, and it does a few interesting things with the turn-based formula, but it doesn't stand among the greatest JRPGs ever made. It's still a damn good bang for your buck though.

Strong entry for the RPG genre. This was my first foray into the time-based mechanic, and it's a beaut. Top this off with some solid puzzles, original storybook designs, and lovely tunes, and Child of Light is worth any strategy lover's time.
