Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a real-time strategy video game of the Command & Conquer franchise, produced by Westwood Studios and released by Virgin Interactive in 1996. The second game to bear the Command & Conquer title, Red Alert is the prequel to the original Command & Conquer of 1995, and takes place in the alternate early history of Command & Conquer when Allied Forces battle an aggressive Soviet Union for control over the European mainland. I think 11-year old me was more engaged with the Soviet campaign cutscenes than the vast majority of other media.

It starts with Einstein killing Hitler. You can build electricity towers. German Shepherds were a big part of the game, but Germans weren't allowed to have them. It ran well on pretty crappy hardware so it was one of the only new games I could play in middle school. Legendary.

An improvement in the sense that faction utility is more interesting but it's still pretty shallow like its prequel in the sense that early game rushes are overly dominant to the point late game tech is pretty worthless. Albeit, I still dig the campaign despite how easy it is and I guess there's some degree of enjoyment to be had in its micro.

Probably my favorite C&C game, although I haven't played all of them in the series. I always appreciated C&C as challenges more than the Blizzard games but enjoyed playing Blizzard's games more.
