Pros: Fascinating usage of skills and experience points. Interesting lead character. Solid atmosphere. Good length. ---------- Cons: Lack of obvious alternative solutions in some cases promotes "save scumming", overwhelming amount of dialogue, abrupt and mediocre ending.

Buggy (the final cut), some good writing but not always, kinda bad gameplay, very very long. A disappointment.

This game is one of the best games ever made. It is a masterpiece. Every aspect of it is created perfectly. It has some of if not the best voice acting in any video game, it has one of the best soundtracks. It has beautiful art design and a very specific aesthetic that it is going for and succeeds in. Its dialogue is very well written, both whimsical and serious, and its characters are all engaging. I replay it at least once per year

Kurvitz is an avid fan of roleplaying books and it shows. Kurvitz also has a pretty basic grasp on concepts like libertarianism and it shows, too. He sorta tries not to favor one over the other, but falls into the usual traps (capitalism is about money, communism is about people etc.). If you don't give a fuck either way, it's a nice enough visual novel with somewhat complex choices, but i'm not sure how this college level existentialist-noir-fiction is a masterpiece.

Quite honestly: the greatest step game development has taken during my lifetime thus far. Leverages equal parts incredible writing and ingenious awareness of the medium to create something truly special. Recommend to anybody, especially those with a serious interest in games or contemporary literature as a whole.

The most novelistic game that I have ever played by a mile. A common criticism is that the narrative is pretty linear, with one path for events to take with minor variations; I agree. DE is not that kind of RPG and isn't trying to be. I call it "novelistic" because the game systems are all meant to represent the subjective experiences of the protagonist, his thoughts and feelings. It is as stream of consciousness narrative that it excels.

Best written game. Clever writing like this doesn't exist anywhere else in the medium. What dragged the score down for me is that I'm just not into point and click adventures at all, so it's amazing how patient I managed to remain throughout the experience. I don't dig the style of the universe much, I didn't know how to get the most out of the thought cabinet, and by the end I just really wanted the game to end. It also didn't make me laugh out loud as much as I was lead to believe it would.

Possibly the best-written game I've ever played, surpassing even the Lucasfilm franchises of yore; its hand-drawn modernist visuals also excel. The marketing is a bit misleading, as this isn't a full-fledged RPG by any stretch - it's a point-and-click adventure with skill checks, and a bit of leeway in how you represent the protagonist in dialogue (for example, you can roleplay his political ideology and the game takes note of that). If you're an avid reader you'll finish this in a few days.

An absolutely brilliant game boasting genuinely hilarious dialog while at the same time offering phenomenal world building and prose. The use of politics is genuinely clever, lampshading the ridiculousness of fervent ideologies while at the same time acknowledging why people value these ways of thinking. Even the RPG mechanics blend wonderfully with the game's writing - it's actually enjoyable to fail speech checks as those failures evolve the experience in its own unique way.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Great writing, artwork and background world. Intellectual without crossing into pretentious. The way character builds effect how situations can be resolved allows for genuine role playing with differing experiences on different playthroughs.

I loved this game so much. It's such an interesting role-playing experience, with so many options, loved the character traits and the thought catalog and the world is phenomenal. And it makes you live some extremely potent moments that have to deal with violence that nearly broke me. Which I loved. It's the kind of game where you shouldn't load and try again... Because the story you create is the story you have, why change it? Maybe my new favorite ever.
