Fallout: New Vegas - Honest Hearts

2011
Action, Role-Playing
In Honest Hearts, the Courier takes part in an expedition to Utah's Zion National Park, when they are attacked by tribal raiders. While trying to return to the Mojave, the Courier becomes involved in conflicts between the tribes and between a "New Canaanite"... missionary and an individual known as the "Burned Man", Caesar's former Legate, who, after losing the first battle of Hoover Dam, was covered in pitch, set on fire, and thrown into the Grand Canyon. An interesting environment with some cool combat set pieces but the story was pretty underwhelming and a lot of the locales you visit are largely forgettable. There's also a lot of things this DLC does not convey clearly to you, especially around the start where many people unintentionally kill Follows-Chalk. On the other hand, it has some cool lore to discover and I always liked the tribal aesthetic this DLC pushed. Overall, it's generally pretty forgettable compared to other NV content.

Also great DLC, different enough from the rest.

Another solid expansion to New Vegas, Honest Hearts takes a more character-direct approach to the gameplay and storytelling and the result is mixed. Joshua Graham is not quite as fleshed-out as he should be given the circumstances of his history and the tribes are not super explored either.

The only redeemable thing about this DLC was the Survivalist (and maybe also the Burned Man himself.) Everything else - the mobs scattered all over the map like pizza toppings, the Indian tribes - was just annoying.

Pretty easy play through, I like the integration of the game's lore but I wish it went further and affected characters in the base game aswell. As per usual, great lore, characters, and ethical dilemmas.
