Fallout: New Vegas - Old World Blues

2011
Action, Role-Playing
The residents of the Mojave have long assumed the trackless wastes of the ‘Big Empty’ are a no-man's-land, a desolate stretch where no living thing can survive. In Old World Blues, you discover that it is anything but... After being transported to the Big MT research crater, you find you're the only hope of saving the Think Tank – the strange group of post-human researchers who inhabit the facility. They enlist your aid to save them from their own experiments - experiments that have gone horribly out of control. As you explore the huge stretch of the Big MT crater and its many underground labs, you’ll confront strange mutated animals, battle terrifying new atomic robots, and discover a new home base to call your own. Recover all the weapons, armor, and tech of the Pre-War era and use them to help save all of Science!

Absolutely ridiculous expansion that can be thought about deeply. Some of the most fun someone can have in a game with outrageous concepts brought to life and interesting personalities to scrutinize the main character.

My favorite New Vegas DLC is so damn funny when amping up the retrofuturist vibe of the Fallout world, and adding even more B-movie to the mix. But with all the fun and laughs it's easy to forget how freaking dark the story is. And somehow, this made me cry by the end.

Best and funniest F:NV DLC right here. I got a heartwarming surprise after I completed it and got back to my base, too. :)

This was really fun to roam around in.

The main plot has some interesting beats with regards to the effects isolation has had on the Think Tank, but this gets hampered by a really stupid plot twist that needlessly vilifies them. Not to mention a lot of the humor is weak, but I didn't particularly find it overbearing since most of the time you're not interacting with any of the characters. That aside, the world building is pretty cool and there's a lot of neat things to find, so it's not a total waste of time.

This DLC is big and has a lot of opportunities for exploration and humor. The problem I have is that the humor of the Think Tank is funny for 1 or 2 encounters but you end up talking to them multiple times and it gets very old by the end. It doesn't help that the final story beats of this, while somewhat funny, are based on major contrivances in the plot.
