Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a role-playing video game, a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. XIII-2 includes modified features from XIII, including fast-paced combat and a customizable "Paradigm" system to control which abilities are used by the characters, and adds a new system that allows monsters to be captured and used in battle. It features a heavy time travel element, allowing the player to jump between different times at the same location or different places at the same time. (wikipedia.org)

Way too many filler mobs, filler quests, and some obvious budget problems. I did find the combat a bit more fun than in FF13 though. The reduced linearity also helps, and the time traveling gimmick is mildly interesting.

Like someone took a mirror reflecting an interesting time-travel plot, shattered it with a crowbar, and rearranged the pieces according to the formulas in an obscure medieval alchemy text that had been translated by someone who doesn't actually know Japanese. There's all kinds of interesting bits and pieces in here, but no coherent or satisfying way to assemble them. And seriously, it's stupidly easy to wander into areas with bad guys way above your level! And sometimes you have to for a quest!

I think I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII more because it had a better story and characters, but the gameplay was more streamlined which made that part more fun.
