It's more fun to watch than play.

Fond memories of skipping school and playing this over and over until I could beat it on Very Hard. In hindsight, I probably should've gone to class instead.

I'm ambivalent. once you get past the novelty of the extreme difficult, it's not much of a game. however, as a game -designed- to frustrate the player with extreme difficulty, it's actually fairly well designed. it's largely trial and error, but the number of save opportunities encourage the player to keep going. highly influential, if nothing else.

For a time, it was a novel concept. The idea of a game that completely fucks with your expectations for the sake of difficulty is hilarious, even if it makes the challenge unfair and full of trial and error. However, it's a formula that's been copied so much that the appeal of it has been diminished. Still, what gives IWBTG the edge over those games is how absolutely absurd it is which gives it its own unique charm. Jumping over a ledge only to have Ryu come out of nowhere and kill me is funny.
