King's Quest: Quest for the Crown

The series that took the fairy tale business of Roberta Williams's preceding hit The Wizard and the Princess and ran with it. The original does look and feel for all the world like the arbitrary nonsense of the Hi-Res Adventure days with the added advantage of little characters moving around on-screen; and they really did liven things up more for the time. An interesting step towards the future it may be, but pretty thoroughly displaced by the remake for good reason.

The original 1984 version has not aged especially well but the 1990 remake in the King's Quest IV style brought things lurching forward into something much more attractive and playable. This one is the simplest of the series in its simple fairy tale-based storytelling but it's amusing traveling up the clouds to battle the giant and pushing the witch into her own cauldron.
