Adventure
Papo & Yo is a fantasy adventure video game about a young Brazilian boy, Quico, who, while hiding from his abusive, alcoholic father, finds himself taken to a dream-like favela, where he meets a normally docile creature, Monster. The player, as Quico, interacts with the Monster, and manipulates the buildings of the favela in unique ways, such as by stacking individual shacks on each other, to complete puzzles and progress in the game. Short, but beautiful game. The gameplay is fun, and the story, while simple, leaves an impact. I don't think it's something I'll ever go back and play again, but I'm glad I checked it out. I'll remember this one.

I like some of the environment design and it really is nice to see a game about somewhere largely ignored like Brazil, but the gameplay was pretty bad and the story felt way too... overt and in your face? I honestly don't know if I can quite put what I felt into words, but as someone who usually doesn't mind "artistic" indie games at all, I felt the sort of negative feelings that people who hate them seem to, for this particular one.

The aesthetic, which is enchanting, can't make up for the too-simplistic gameplay and setting, which begin to bore rather quickly.
