Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

Aside from the obnoxious encounter design and shitty crusade mini-game, WotR is such a peculiar game which dabbles in a lot of unique and interesting narrative ideas but often takes a total 180 on them and goes nowhere with it or handles it in the most lackluster way possible. There are definitely solid plot beats that I was satisfied with at certain junctures, but the game creates a massive level of reactivity that it didn't satisfy on and it ends up leaving many things hollow.

A massive RTwP RPG with ostensibly even more options for character development than its predecessor, Kingmaker. Sadly, it undermines its own richness by adhering to its license; Pathfinder is a haphazard system with wonky, messy mechanics, half-assed and silly classes and no semblance of balance. Premade companions are hardly customizable, severely narrowing options for party composition, and the game is extremely linear with a freedomless walled-in world map when it even appears.

The core story didn't work for me. Angels and demons have always felt a bit out of place in RPGs for me, and running a kingdom in Pathfinder was much more fun than leading a crusade.
