I'm not sure why I came back to Pokemon after all these years. It's still exactly the same game with none of the charm of the originals and as on-rails as ever. Is Game Freak just a super-computer churning out sequels? It's hard for me to believe any of the original producers are left from the GameBoy days because this is reaching Call of Duty levels of repetitiveness.

This is the first time in the franchise that a new game has overhauled the entire look and feel of the world, utilizing the modern technology the 3DS is capable of while still keeping the feeling of the Pokemon world intact. I was skeptical at first; I hadn't played a Pokemon game in years - but after you do away with the tutorials, the game jumps into the Gold/Silver level of nostalgia with no hiccups along the routes.

The French setting is damn cool but the plot is extremely lame and I hate a lot of the gameplay additions they made. The meta became centralized on fairy types and mega evolutions, the former can be somewhat justified but the latter is an absolutely dumb mechanic that adds nothing of value to the gameplay. The main adventure itself is even worse, as the game generously dumps powerful Pokemon onto your lap while simultaneously making gym battles even more mindlessly easy than past games.

The story wasn't as good as the previous generation, and it had an extraordinarily bare post game but the introduction to the 3DS was a solid one. The PSS was great and I like mega evolutions a lot and wish they still added more. Wonder trade is a super fun addition. I bought Y first because I prefer it's legendary.
