better than smt 4 and its sequel due to interesting gameplay changes and a deeply unsettling atmosphere, but still hindered by a ridiculous alignment system where "law" and "chaos" are basically the same insane nazi fuckfaces, just wearing slightly different outfits, compared to "neutral" which is presented as synonymous with the very concept of humanity itself.

An excellent dungeon crawler with great music, strong writing, and an excellent setting. My main complaint is that it's very long; it took me at least 110 hours on expert mode, which meant about half a year of on-and-off gameplay. I prefer my grid-based dungeon crawlers a bit shorter than that. (played the Redux version)
