Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckle: Furious Iron Fist) is a side-scrolling beat 'em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Genesis in 1991. It is the first installment of the Bare Knuckle/Streets of Rage series, followed by Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3. The game was later converted to the Game Gear, Sega CD and Master System, and was also released for the Wii's Virtual Console and for the iOS via the App Store, as well as being made available as part of Sonic's Ultimate Gene

When playing this, it's hard not to think ahead a bit to the fantastic sequel, but still, it looks great, it's got solid gameplay for this sort of thing (and plays around a bit more with the throws and grapples and such so it's not entirely a "Final Fight clone"—even if it kind of is in a lot of ways), and it's got that Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack. They really just took everything a few extra miles the next time around.

SoR is better than most beat em ups on virtue of it functioning around using pliable combos which build off of a cool throw mechanic. It also has some decent enemy design as well. Despite this, I think the game is overly simplistic and the health inflation can get annoying because it encourages you to use the same stun lock combos over and over again until you can finish off enemies with a power move.

3 characters to choose from this game. I choose the girl blaze in all these games because I like choosing female characters over the male characters. Everyones special is a cop car that comes from behind the left side of the screen as each character cop car shoots it's own unique thing. Good game.
