Starts off strong in the first act, but act 2 is a boring macguffin quest leading into a third act that's brief and underwhelming. The world itself is fascinating, but about half way through it loses its luster when it gets lost in its cringey writing and forgets its core conflict established at the end of the first act. The combat has some interesting elements such as teamups and weapon based skills, but the encounter design is so basic and one-dimensional it gets boring fast.

A big step in the right direction for defining how an RPG where you play as the bad guy should play without just being a rip and tear murder fest. I also loved the really cool, linguistics-inspired customizable magic system. My only issue was how limited it felt in terms of tactical challenges.

Very odd writing, one third "Whoo, we can say 'Fuck!' now!", one third loredumpy setting exploration, and one third Saturday-morning superhero cartoon. I would object to Tyranny's description as "choice heavy"; you make only one truly meaningful choice roughly at the game's halfway point (which faction to join) and then follow that path to the endgame. Sometimes the game will even force you to take one specific action when you should logically have a choice. The combat is highly repetitive.
