Unreal

I was very surprised when played it in 2020-ish and actually enjoyed it more than most of modern games. In 1998 game, in old-school linnear shooter, there's a possibility to store some items (like powerups) and use them later. It have a really beautiful world, even with 1998 graphics, nice shooting and very unique weapons, not just by design, but by their mechanics too. If this game would have a remaster, I'd buy it for whatever price it be.

Shows its age at times, not least graphically, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. The world feels well thought out, and locales and missions flow together logically to give a coherent narrative and sense of adventure. I did get lost/stuck a couple of times, which took me out of things, but you could perhaps chalk that up to my own stupidity. I wonder whether, if I'd played this back in 1998, Quake 2 would still be the gold standard I hold FPSs to.

Played in 2023. A lot of fun. Parts look outdated graphic-wise, other parts where the engine is still beautiful. A bit too long with its 37 levels or however many there are, but the fights, AI, level design and scenery are great. An excellent action with varied and interesting weapons. Haven't played the Return to Na Pali mission pack yet, on the list. /completed

The story mode, which was meant to be the meat of this one, can get sort of tedious. But that AI suite was something else. Every fight felt like a duel. Good thing they added bot matches; that kept this game alive for me....but Unreal Tournament nailed that so hard, there isn't much of a reason to play Unreal anymore.

Starts out cool but then gets very tedious very quickly. Enemies take forever to kill and paths forward are always cryptic and hidden in confusing, repetitive mazes.

Unreal and Half-Life proved to everyone that FPS games can be more than just a coridor with monsters. Amazing graphics for that time.

A lot of fun! My favorite FPS.
