Xenoblade Chronicles

Xenoblade Chronicles

2010
Role-Playing
Colony 9 is attacked by a group of Mechon led by a special Face Mechon called Metal Face. Dunban is almost killed when he attempts to use the Monado again, prompting Shulk to use it: he wields it with ease, and receives visions of the future from it. While the Mechon are driven back, Metal Face proves immune to the Monado and kills Fiora before fleeing. Swearing revenge against Metal Face, Shulk sets out together with Reyn. (Wikipedia)

For someone to make something as risque as Xenogears/Saga to come around and make a plot this vanilla is odd. Still, the main cast is charming and rather likable despite this. Adored the world and sense of scale in each location, the soundtrack is amazing, and the monster designs are pretty cool. I don't think this game (or series for that matter) can match Takahashi's past works, but it holds its own with its own unique identity.

Don't play this on the Wii, due to an extreme lack of quality of life improvements. But it's still easy to see how grand and epic this JRPG is, with breathtaking, explorable vistas, a good story, great voice acting, and a battle system that doesn't get old. What does get old is being a near-completionist, with the hundreds of side quests. Don't play this if you value your time, family, or other pursuits or interests. But a fine game all around.
