Ape Out

Cool music, interesting graphics style, but in the end the gameplay loop is just nothing special

Loses a lot of points for the huge difficulty spike in world 3, zone 6. Feels very luck-based, which is fine when the levels are easy, so I dunno why he threw in a ton of cheap BS for that level to prevent enjoying the rest of the game. Controls aren't precise enough and the enemy has too many advantages for that kind of precision gameplay. Will probably be overrated since people will focus on presentation over actual gameplay.

'Ape Out' has the confidence and unicity of design of a classic arcade game while feeling like a completely fresh experience; a few levels are genuinely exhilarating, but its overall aesthetic cohesiveness is what's really impressive about it.

The soundtrack is awesome, the way it ties into the violence and amps up the mood is really the highlight of the game. Besides that, the lazy--but most apt--comparison is Hotline Miami without all the weirdness. It's satisfying just destroying people, but be warned that it is a difficult game. I didn't really like starting all the way back at the beginning of the level but that's a personal preference. Also don't really care for the minimalist art style.
