When AC2 spawned it's own character sequels, it was expected AC3 would go the same way so it was quite a surprise to see the fourth numbered game not only appear so quickly, but mark as a return to form with an entirely fresh sea battle section to boot! To be honest, I think there is too much time spent sailing from location to location, but this is still a worthy entry in the franchise, and definitely offers a change to the standard free running gameplay.

Not enough rape but just enough ship battles to make you almost feel like a pirate. It's shocking when an assassins creed game isn't immediately thrown in the garbage after slogging through the exact same tutorial again.

The series takes a left turn after the all-in-all underwhelming AC3 and let's you be a pirate. What's not to like.

Probably the most fun I've had with Assassin's Creed, which I guess isn't saying too much.

I've never really understood why these Assassin's Creed games have to be some sort of weird-ass video game within a video game set in some sci-fi modern world. That aside, the basic feel and mechanics of it all are pretty fun if occasionally repetitive, and the addition of the pirate vibe really spices up the Assassin's Creed flavor is something I might say if I'd played previous Assassin's Creed games

Black Flag is for the most part a dream come true. An enormous pirate themed world with full fledged ship to ship combat in place. The only thing holding it back is reliance on the Assassin's Creed formula. This is a title which outgrew its own franchise.

Sailing a ship and pretty graphics still can't pull this franchise from the repetitive and surface-level gameplay that it clings to. Oh great, another mission where I slowly track a boring NPC for ten minutes? Pass.

Really confusing as an introduction to Assassin's creed, quality and polish is all over the place. Has some missions that are great. Being a pirate is awesome. I just wish the AI was not so incredibly stupid. It gets worse the more you play. The story is confusing and gives no reason to care about anything, plus there are stupid "real world" sections where you need to play "frogger" to progress. Play the pirate bits and ignore the rest I guess.

Terrible. I remember struggling to beat this because I didn't power up the ship to the max. So I just went in there doing this and lucking it out because my ship. I did beat this though.

Cool Caribbean setting, enjoyed the diving and locale. Beautiful subtle ending and I enjoyed playing Edward Kenway. Didn't reallly feel as an AC game for me and the modern day storyline is really weak. But fun game nonetheless.

alright game. not enough assassin like gameplay and sometimes it gets really boring when you have to captain a ship for hour or so.
