Activision having sniped away the core people behind EA's Medal of Honor: AA results in a game in much the same spirit, but easier, and leaning harder on the "cinematic experience". Now, levels boil down to deceptively linear corridors briskly ushering you from one theme-park thrill to the next, but the breathless hustle did make for an impressive spectacle. Part of the new ease also comes from some improved mechanics, with a heavier focus on cover, flanking, and some light AI support fire.

We were obsessed with WW2 shooters for a time. CoD released and it was just another one. It's decently well made, with some engaging scenarios and new perspectives. If it feels similar to MoH that's because it is; many of the same people were involved. There's nothing in here to indicate the monster franchise it would become.

The original CoD redefined WWII shooters with its intense, cinematic set-pieces (storming Stalingrad! D-Day chaos!) and squad-based immersion. The sound design and battle chatter made you feel like part of a war, not a one-man army. But its linear, scripted nature feels dated next to later entries, and the difficulty spikes (especially on Veteran) border on sadistic

Copycat of Medal of Honor with less realistic gameplay but it was still a good game for its time.

A solid start to this franchise. It falls categorically into the glut of WWII shooters of this era but it is at least in the middle.

Remember when Call of Duty wasn't the John Cena of gaming? People loved this shit.
