Trailer promised an emotional, story driven game... If I remember correctly the first thing you hear in the game is, I believe... "Who-do you voodoo bitch"
Zombie games were starting to saturate the market around now, and I just didn't see anything to like about this game. Which is weird, because they had a brilliant backwards playing advertisement for his game that had little to do with the gameplay, and it gripped people at the time.
We have yet to get my perfect zombie game but this one has a bunch of aspects of what I would want. It was really buggy upon release though, which at the time made me rate it lower, but as time has gone on my love for this has only grown, warts and all. It's an imperfect game but I'm forgiving of it. The combat was done well, looking for stuff was fun, it did a good job of making you feel like a survivor in the zombie apocalypse. Plus it was co-op at a time when that wasn't so common.
Messing around in the open world of the first level, crashing the car into zombies and trees all over the place, is a good time. Dumb but fun. Never got past that sandbox phase in my playthrough.
