Why didn't they keep Frank West? You got me. The survivor AI is better and the time to rescue is just a little more forgiving than the first game. The narrative story in the background's a little less intriguing, but serves the purpose.

It's kind of funny how this game became substantially easier than the last because the AI is far less idiotic, but this is a detriment because they're TOO competent which makes pathing a joke made worse by zombies that are less of a threat. Chuck is also a more boring protag compared to the legendary Frank West. On the other hand, the bosses are still awesome, the setpieces for survivors is still amusing, and I think this game balances weapons better so it's not a huge downfall.
