Not just the game, but the overall experience is designed so tightly, nothing is redundant there, amount of all the ingrediences, of everything, is diligently balanced.

My spoiled, next gen accustomed mind thinks "huh, didn't it always look and play like this?". Yes and no. It's a step up in every way, but only in so far as to bring a 15 year old game up to snuff, no more, no less. Mission accomplished then. It still relies too heavily on jump scares and gore to be anything more than mildly irritating, though. I guess if you've figured out how the world works, shit like this just can't scare you anymore.

If you never played the original, then this is surely the optimal way to play it now. Otherwise, I don't see the point even after searching around for it. The slightly improved visuals aren't a big enough step up to justify its existence, and the other changes all feel rather minor and inconsequential. I've always considered the original game overrated, and the problems I have with it aren't addressed here. But hey, they made the plasma cutter feel 'weaker,' so that's something no one wanted

Dead Space is a solid remake that offers better graphical fidelity, improved bosses, and reworked puzzles. However, I vastly prefer the stripped-down plot, silent Isaac, and the quiet Ishimura which were so important to the original's atmosphere. This game reminded me more of 2 which is a shame because I preferred the original, even at the time. As is, this is a great way to play this game, even if some of the soul was last in translation.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm not a horror game guy, but I don't love this. I don't like its style of horror (jump scares all the time and making me walk around in the dark). It does look pretty. I respect the design choice with the Ishimura but I'm not really in love with it. Shooting limbs off of enemies is a cool idea but became less interesting. I understand that a big part of the fear is managing bullets but I don't like that in horror games so it's not a selling point.
