The definition of a mixed bag. This game does a lot right in its pulp sci-fi/Star Wars-inspired atmosphere and settings and the fun of its world design and large levels and combat and galaxy exploration and a ton of absolutely wonderful music (one of the best N64 soundtracks). But the whole Tribal collection system and the game's demand that you collect EVERYTHING to do the last level/last boss just ruins the whole thing. Man a slight redesign could have made this a classic.

For everything this game does right, I have picked it up at least a dozen times and never finished it. It may be the backtracking, or the mid-game exponential increase in difficulty - but whatever it is, Jet Force Gemini may just be unnecessarily unwieldy at best, unfocused at worst. All I know is, after a while I start to purposefully pick off those damned Teddies out of spite. The splatter effects are awesome.

Fun, and amazing graphics for the time.

RARE may not have created a true masterpiece with Jet Force Gemini. However when observed outside the enormous curve they set for themselves, this is still an addictive and enjoyable action game. The storyline is fine and the character are cute. The major downside is the lackluster multiplayer.
