On top of the shittier soundtrack, the game also has some really obnoxious enemy design and placement. If the enemies aren't damage sponges that do too much damage, they're plastered all over the screen. They also don't mix up the enemy variety too often so you'll see repeated patterns of the same enemies in each level. On the positive side, the new armor upgrades are pretty cool and the controls still feel tight, but this game was basically a shittier version of its prequels.

With multiple endings, extra armors and add-ons, this does give more material and easter eggs- including the ability to play as Zero. So it does add material, but the overall formula of how X plays stays pretty true to earlier series entries.

Like the first two games but with worse boss battles and level design. Oh and you can play as Zero for less than half of each level excluding bosses, whoop de fucking shit.

It's playable (and some of the music is still great) but can't escape the vibe of feeling a little lazy, playing exactly like a game that came out a year earlier that already played exactly like a game that came out the year before that. Honestly I'd probably rather just play through Mega Man X three times in a row than play through the three games once each.
