[PC] A long game but a good one. The character creation tool is half the fun, following the 3rd edition DnD rules, with lots of classes, races, and abilities to choose from. The Aurora Toolset is also a great way to learn about conditional programming, and an ingenious way to start the game with a maxed level character.

Hours and hours and hours of gameplay on this one. I loved the take on 3rd edition DnD in video game form. An interesting story, and you could create a HUGE variety of different characters and builds. The sequels only made this game better, especially because you could carry over the character from this game into the sequels.

This was when I realized that the RPG genre was in trouble.

Not a bad campaign, though the single PC with "henchman" choice was an odd one in some ways. (It also makes you notice that Bioware issue where the characters wind up being more interesting than the "plot" more when you barely spend any time with most of the characters.) The game's greatest strength was as a versatile tool for creating all sorts of custom modules, though.

U-G-L-Y YOU AIN'T GOT NO ALIBI I liked it, I mean a lot. Even in 2002, the visuals were awful, and the controls were taxing. The story is nothing to write home about, but can your DM do better? Actually, can they? This game actually let them give it a shot and provided an easy toolkit to create your own scenarios (or blatantly ripoff your favorite tabletop modules), which was so freaking cool. It's the Mario Maker 2 (Unlimited Adventures came out 10 years before this...) of D&D vidjagames

I remember the 3rd Ed. D&D class system being advanced relative to older RPGs, and the fully 3d graphics looking novel but crude (well, early 3d art was quite ugly next to its contemporary pixel art). I put quite a few hours into it, but probably never made it halfway through before feeling like a slog. It also came with a level designing tool that was a novelty.
