Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

As much as I admire how grand the ambitions are for this game, Robin Hood just isn't that much fun to play. There are tons of different gameplay elements - adventuring through the forest, sideview sword duels, top-down army battles and horse races - but none of it is that interesting and all look pretty bad. I remain impressed with getting this big of a story into this small game and the individual character graphics are good but ... I just wish I could like this one.

There are a lot of good and interesting ideas in the way this game fuses bits of the Legend of Zelda overhead adventure formula, Gauntlet-esque overhead shooter scenes and tournament fighting game-style sword duels. It's really just its brutally ugly aesthetics holding it back, its puke-y green and brown visuals, bad attempts at graphical realism and grating soundtrack. I wish circa 1991 Capcom could've redone all the visuals and music on this thing!
