Sonic Adventure 2

Sega makes so many interesting design decisions. their boldest here is actually crafting functional hedgehog levels, and then forcing you to go through unplayable trash as the other four characters. glitchy as hell, frequently and aggressively unfun. only serviceable as meme fodder. the Chao Garden was dumb as shit.

What Sonic Adventure 1 should've been. Great fun and the Sonic bits are what they're supposed to be - fast paced guided segments. I enjoyed this at least as much as the 2D Sonics I've played, shows how good 3D Sonic can be when done right. Let down by the Knuckles/Rouge bits and the Shadow parts are a little frustrating/buggy but overall good.

The only question I have is: why did I play so many Sonic games in my youth?

I actually still have a lot of affection for this one just because I loved it as a kid. Even without the nostalgia goggles I actually think it's probably the best 3D Sonic game, though that's a low bar to clear. Very buggy but not entirely unfun.

Most of the points here are for City Escape alone. Wasonic was not a good addition to the franchise.
