SteamWorld Dig 2

An improvement upon the foundation of the first game. The core loop is the same but there's a lot more variety and plot, and it's all handled well. The levels are more segmented and feel more intentionally designed than the first game's semi-randomized vibe. This leads to some more challenging platforming moments that are satisfying to pass, and they even figured out how to make boss fights work this time around. Nails the type of incremental improvement that all sequels strive for

A very competent Metroidvania with good maps with lots of secrets. Kind of short and the story is nothing more than adequate.

It'a a fun and chill Metroidvania, but the gameplay felt a bit slight, and it ended quite abruptly. A big chunk of the main quest gameplay just consists of digging through the map; I feel like the meat of the game is in the optional treasure caves, where the challenges are generally more interesting.
