Still Wakes the Deep

Loved the cosmic horror elements. Wish it had more gameplay elements.

Immersion breaking bugs on the ps5, awkward cutscene execution (specially in the transition from gameplay), cliche horror tropes, gameplay with very few meaningful decisions, uncanny valley graphics sometimes. It had good audio but I could not get very scared. Stopped at around 50% (story seems also not good). So, just play Soma instead.

A tense narrative horror set on a Scottish oil rig, Still Wakes the Deep shines with superb voice acting and atmosphere. It’s simple and linear, but the setting and audio design make it hauntingly immersive. Its limited mechanics and narrow paths hold it back, yet the emotional weight and storm-lashed visuals leave a strong impression. A flawed but memorable experience. Score: 83/100.

Really good experience. Horror as it shall be—cosmic and psychologically. Tragic story, well told. The DLC was even better just for me personally as it gave me a few more SOMA vibes even though, this game differs heavily. Looks good, very few enemy interactions that can ruin fun, more of an interactable movie. Unique dread felt. It can be a bit performance hungry even on lower settings. A bit comparable to In Sound Mind. It takes time to get used to the heavy accent spoken.

Nails exactly what it's going for and is one for the real horror fans. The mechanics are kept simple but there's enough variety and just enough depth to make it feel engaging. The setting is perfect for this kind of game and is brilliantly realized. On top of the excellent horror elements and strong story, the game looks gorgeous and sounds incredible, even packing in some of the best creature sounds I've ever heard — play it loud — and the whole voice cast do such a great job

Short but immersive horror walking sim. Gameplay is nothing to write home about, but the visual design, acting and ambient noise are good. Whilst I'm from south of the border, a script of actually realistic British dialogue really added to the experience.
