The Operative: No One Lives Forever is a first-person shooter video game with stealth gameplay elements. A story-driven game set in the 1960s, No One Lives Forever has been critically acclaimed for, among other things, its stylistic representation of the era in the spirit of many spy films and television series of that decade, as well as for its humor. Players control female protagonist Cate Archer, who works for a secret organization that watches over world peace. (wikipedia.org)

It's a shame I never played this when it first came out, as it very much reminds me of one of my most favourite games, Perfect Dark, and would probably have developed into another. I like the aesthetic, the care put into the locales and the ability to seemingly approach large parts of the game in various ways, even if I did eschew stealth for blazing guns whenever possible. Sadly, it does show its age at times, even if I'd agree it has aged well.

NOLF was a lot of fun, as played in 2021. It captures the essence (and silliness) of the Bond-esque spy genre with upbeat tempo and atmosphere, quirky characters, humour and great dialogue. That is the game's main strength too: the story, atmosphere and characters. Gameplay-wise the game is fun enough to keep you entertained until you reach the next cut scene. The music is top too. Highly recommend for a few hours of fun. /completed May 2021
