X-Men

X-Men

1992
Arcade
A side-scrolling beat 'em up based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name. The character designs of the X-Men and the supervillains in the game are based on the 1989 X-Men pilot episode X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men. In the game, players control one of the six playable X-Men to defeat their enemy Magneto. Konami made a six-player version of the game utilizing two screens housed in a deluxe cabinet. (wikipedia)

The arcade cabinet itself was really neat and eye-catching but the game was pretty standard when it came to the beat em up genre. A lot of the enemies were copy and pasted throughout the game and mutant powers draining your health was extra dumb. Though to its credit, the game looked really good visually and the cheesy voice acting is memorable. A shame the game was mechanically shallow.

excellent beat em up. Wish they would have ported these versions to home consoles.
