Being my first entry to the series and having played through the entirety of the franchise ever since, Yakuza 0 is the perfect starting point for newcomers while being the best Yakuza experience so far at the same time. I'll never forget how hooked up I was to it during the covid days which I hadn't been to a videogame in a really long time. The game enjoys from a masterful story telling, solid character writing and a unique atmosphere to immerse you into 80s Japan with decent enough gameplay.

The combat gameplay is boring and simple, it feels sluggish and repetitive. The stories were not horrible but nothing special either. There's some humour, that's the best part. There's lots of misoginy here also, with some eye rolling tropes. As one of the creators said, it's a game for (heterossexual) men. But they should reflect: what of kind men? There are a lot of mini-games, but they are just mini boredoms. It's long, and primarily based on the stories. I didn't finish it,stopped at ch. 5.

Great story. That's all that is great about this game. Semi open World & this game gets really repetitive fast. Main problems in this game is the game play. 3 difficulty setting from Easy - Hard. The game is inconsistent. At times they'll tell you where to go other times they won't. You can skip cut scenes, while other times you can't. Majority of the time they are spamming dialogue. It's not fun. 17 chapters to this game & it's rinse & repeat. Way too long of a game also.

About 80% interactive movie and 20% game. The game parts are cool but are still repetitive button smashing where the enemies often suddenly become difficult, not by creating a new challenge for the player to overcome, just by the game saying 'ok now this is hard lol'.

I bought this because of the chicken real estate manager and then that wasn’t even in the top 10 most ridiculous things that happened

The most wonderfully over-the-top yet deadly serious and nail-biting thing since the days when Metal Gear was still cool. Best (told) story on the PS4, with Majima's introduction being probably the coolest cutscene of all time. Those dumb mini games were way more addictive than they had any rights to be, too.

Yakuza is a series that people should recommend to non-fans because it's insane. The story is part melodrama, part silliness, but always compelling; the gameplay is a mixture of beat 'em up and RPG, but then it throws in other genres. This is true for all games. You can start here since it's a prequel to the first game if you don't want to jump into the deep end.
