Lots of jank and a general feeling of clumsy controls. If that bothers you, I'd suggest passing on this. But beyond that, it's an immersive game with a lot of great features to mess around with. Towns feel lively, the story and it's characters are engaging, progression is rewarding, the game is beautiful.

It manages to do a lot right. There's nothing here that's incredible, but everything is good. It's a shame there won't be a second one.

NMS never fulfills what it sets out to do, even after all these years of constant updates.

Fallout 4 (2015) - Rated 15 Nov 2021

An insult to the series and mediocre game all around. The story is a mess, the world is shallow, the dialogue choices are nothing more than an illusion. The one redeeming quality of this game, the crafting and base building, is so frustrating to use that I can't be bothered to. I'd give it points for decent level design if the bad graphics and art direction didn't taint it. At the very least it's functional and I'll give it points for that.

Arguably the best RPG of all time.

Assassin's Creed: Unity (2014) - Rated 13 Nov 2021

The world is beautiful and the parkour is the best of the series. NPC's fill the world with life in a way no other game has accomplished. Unfortunately, most other aspects of the game are underwhelming. But what ACU does well makes up for it's shortcomings.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018) - Rated 13 Nov 2021

A shiny exterior suggests greatness, yet inside there's nothing but disappointment and broken promises. Nearly every aspect of this game fails to reach it's potential.

Moonlighter (2018) - Rated 13 Nov 2021

Nothing in this game stands out in a significant way. The meta progression that takes place in the town section makes it a novel concept, but not enough to carry the game. The dungeon crawling is serviceable but pales in comparison to it's competition. Care was obviously put into this, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to hold my attention. It just barely fails to be worth playing.

Cyberpunk 2077 (2020) - Rated 13 Nov 2021

A disappointing story nestled within great cinematic direction and facial animation, surrounded by poor combat / stealth mechanics, a laughably underdeveloped open world, and to many bugs to count. Even if the game launched in a polished state, we'd still only be looking at a 5/10.

Infuriating difficulty leads to a feeling of great success if you can manage to get a handle on the game mechanics. The difficult nature of the game, along with the scarcity of other players in the world, leads to some of the most interesting multiplayer interactions I've ever had. Adrenaline pumping pvp, the relief of finding a friendly soul out in the world, and the overwhelming accomplishment of conquering survival make it easy to overlook negative aspects of the game.
