Altered Beast is a 1988 beat 'em up arcade game developed and manufactured by Sega. The game is set in Ancient Greece, and follows a centurion who is resurrected by Zeus to rescue his daughter Athena. In order to save his daughter, Zeus transforms the centurion into beasts with the use of power-ups. After its initial arcade release, it was ported to several home video game consoles and home computers, including the Genesis, for which it was a pack-in game. (Wikipedia)

I'll give this game a pass. Good game on the Sega Genesis when it came out.

Welcome to your doom. By the time you finish reading this you could’ve probably beaten this pathetically slow clunky short game twice over. The dragon is the best powerup, it totally fucks up the eyeball boss. You ever get a barrage of lightning in your eye?

The game has some satisfying powerups and boss fights but the level to level gameplay can often be monotonous and the slow scrolling screen makes the game tedious. Playing as the human is obnoxious since all of your attacks outright suck which leads to the irony that you can easily trivialize a lot of the enemies and boss fights with the beast transformations. Despite this, the game is sweet and short enough to not overstay its welcome and is at least playable, but design wise it's lackluster.

Crazy, stupid, goofy, clunky, bad, but pretty fun

Gotta be one of the worst games to attain any sort of visually iconic status in retro gamer-dom.

Welcome to your DOOM! POWER UP!!!! The humans got quite swole before turning into their beast forms. A very short but fun game. Trying to kick the white wolf while he was jumping past you was always a chore.

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE! It's slow. Graphically, it lacks from the arcade significantly. As the first Pack-in, it doesn't show off the 16 bit system. You could still get the Sega Master System at this point and this game wouldn't have been much of a reason to get a Genesis. Side note: Look at this game compared to Toy Story years later - the difference in quality on the SAME HARDWARE is remarkable!
