As of 2020, Bloodborne is the closest a Fromsoft title has come to matching the brilliance of Dark Souls, evidenced by the excellent world and level layouts. It also implements Victorian and Lovecraftian horror roots into excellent art, enemy, and boss designs. The story is buried even more deeply than most modern From games but it is still fascinating, thoughtful, and has room for interesting and memorable characters. Bloodborne is a true standout and must-play title on PS4.

I mean, I *guess* there's a story, but it barely factors into anything - you're here for the aesthetics and atmosphere. Run around, kill gross monsters, die a lot, grind for hours, die again, rage quit, repeat. Done and done.

For years I hated From games and would not shut up about this fact to anyone who mentioned them. Finally, around a month ago, I decided to give this one last try. Turns out it fucking rules and I was a big idiot! I went from not being able to beat Gascoigne for two and a half years to nailing Orphan of Kos on my second try. From own Bloodborne owns I am a total fanboy now

I get that the game is supposed to be challenging but some of the game design makes it hard for the sake of being hard and makes the experience unfun. Decided to keep playing for now so will update if I like it better

If you want a game to beat you into submission, while reciting Bram Stoker and H. P. Lovecraft, then look no further!

I was always going to upgrade to PS4 but this game is the one that finally got me to do it. Amazing combat, atmosphere, lore, and weapons. While I'm glad I played the earlier souls games to learn the combat style I prefer the fast paced shield-less style of Bloodborne. I loved the weapons having double variations and the guns were well done. Only complaint is a few of the cooler and more unique weapons are basically impossible to get until end game.

I like that this game removed 100%-block shields like the Souls games, because it gives the combat a very different, more fast-paced feel. But it still has some typical Fromsoft shortcomings, like a couple of player attributes being near useless, and in the base game, I felt that the weapon variety was pretty lacking. The weapons that are there function very differently from each other, but it's not like a Souls game where you get lots of different weapons with small variations.

Bloodborne evolves the Souls gameplay in a way that a fan of the series shouldn't miss. Unique, beautiful, mysterious. A must play for anybody who isn't deterred by the difficult gameplay.

A phenomenally well-done PVE lovecraftian-DarkSouls experience, with lackluster PVP elements. A near perfect game from a PVE perspective, but falls short I feel on trying to meld PVE/PVP like other games from FromSoft.

While I quite enjoyed Dark Souls/Elden Ring, the differences in the combat system here just don't gel with me. I've given up for the timebeing, though I will revise my score if I get back to it successfully.

A technically impressive game with beautiful environments, responsive controls, and just so much to do. One of the better Dark Souls games despite not being a trilogy title. If only it came to PC.
