Among the first-party titles, between Super Mario Bros redefining the default image of the platforming genre and some relatively straightforward arcade ports and sports games, lie the games like this and Devil World, at once very arcadey, and very convoluted. With its odd jumping and constant little frustrations, it's a good one for those who like their games tough; though most won't stick around (handy there's level select). Reportedly, the VS System version did very well in arcades.

The jumping sucks. I have to be really deliberate before jumping to make sure I go straight up or to the side. You can't just zip around like with Mario. Also the conveyor belts are so frustrating. Really the whole game is frustrating and very little fun to be had.

God, the controls in this game are awful. Horizontal aerial momentum is almost non-existant in this game leading to basic platforming being irritatingly difficult more often than not. Even if the controls weren't garbage, the level layout is rudimentary and uninteresting which makes it a pretty unsatisfying game to play. lol at Sakurai adding these losers into Smash Bros, tho.

It's OK, if a bit clunky.

An amusing way to kill a little time with a multiplayer component, but pretty damn simple and somewhat stiffly-controlling. I'm one of an extremely large percentage of people who best knows the protagonists from Smash Bros.
