Transplanting MGS2's controls into MGS1 level design makes the game way too easy. The re-done voice acting is inferior to the original's. The action choreography is too over-the-top and goofy even for me.

They updated the controls and core gameplay without bothering to update the level design, and gritty aesthetic is gone since now everything looks unnaturally squeaky clean. But how about all those wild and crazy cutscenes right? XD Just stick with the original PS1 game.

I enjoyed re-exploring this game through a somewhat different lens. The stealth of it remains compellingly different than most other games out there.

one of the best interpretations I've read of this game is that the PS1 Metal Gear Solid was what actually happened, and the Twin Snakes is the movie-fied, post-truth story, believed by people who think like Raiden at the start of MGS2. to the extent that makes this a necessary or quality sequel is up for debate, but I found it highly entertaining regardless. no reason not to play it, especially if you're a fan of the series and can find a copy.

It was cool back in the day that Gamecube got a remake of a classic. It was also interesting how it reimagined certain aspects of the game, but that didn't always work. Music changes kind of killed the mood of the original, and updating the gameplay to include first-person view actually hurt certain sections (namely the Ocelot fight) because the game wasn't originally built for that. The over the top action sequences were quite fun. The original version is much better but this is worth playing.
