✰ The varies of unexpected levels keep the experience fresh through the game. What a blast to play through. The trio main characters is pretty ironically grounded. But the villain is pretty generic, feels like he's from a different game.

The Evil Within is the first game to have Shinji Makami back in the director’s chair. Between the muddy and grainy visuals, cited by it’s interesting choice use of black bars, TEW just has that horror flair to it. Surrounded by an interesting antagonist and story, one that even gives lore to it’s creatures and bosses. The boss design is creative, environments are always rapidly changing, and gameplay is rough and challenging when it needs to be. Makami did not miss with this.

I'm glad ultra widescreen stopped being a thing.

Gameplay is good; however, what makes this a great game for me is the surreal, trippy, "WTF is going on", splicing between reality and not.
