Finally, I could whisper 'I am the Batman' to myself, without having that moment of panic, fearing that someone might have heard me.

Established an awful precedent in gaming by having one of the worst combat systems ever that inspired many awful copycats due to the game's financial success. Otherwise, the plot is generic Batman schlock and the "puzzles" are laughably bad. Still, I don't wholly hate this game because it has some tolerable stealth sections that allow you to mess with the ai in creative ways. A shame this game didn't focus on this aspect and expanded on it, which isn't remedied by its crappier sequels.

An unexpected triumph. Nobody anticipated that Rocksteady would hit a home run with this effort that kickstarted arguably the most acclaimed action gaming trilogy of recent years. The Asylum setting does restrict the player to more linear progression unlike it's open world sequels, but the combat system was revolutionary, and the attention to detail and fan service is exceptional. Voice acting is top notch, with Mark Hamill providing another example of why he's one of the best Jokers ever

Feels like almost every action game to follow tried to rip off the combat system from Arkham Asylum and none managed to make it as satisfying.

This series makes you Batman. Has innovation that was nailed in Arkham City and the got included in more games that I don't give a fuck about than you you can shake a stick at, including more sequels.

The start of a very good series. The Batman in this universe is dark enough to fit the movies and comics coming out at the time, yet it retained the cartoony edge of earlier works. It was perfect and it knew its audience. The sneakery required was my favorite part.

Before this game released, I broke my previous record for the number of demo replays. I could not get over how Rocksteady had managed to perfectly capture both the combat and the stealth concepts of embodying Batman. The cherries on top to the gameplay turned out to be the fun puzzles, the great voice actors by Batman veterans, the varied rogues gallery showing up. I've replayed this game several times on multiple difficulties. It's a perfect rendering of Batman.

Really got the feel it was aiming for, as far as confidently yet carefully striding around as Batman in a familiar setting (with *very* familiar voice acting talent) with an eye out for threats and secrets. The stealth sections hold up on their own a bit more than the beat-em-up parts, which are flashy but too simple to be all that involving (and keep recycling the same mid-boss encounter that feels neat the first few times and kind of tired by the seventh or so).

this was one of those few games i got at the same time, played a bit to check it out, then never again lool but i've always wished i just kept playing it back then. and i've wanted to many times since but havent yet. loved the stealth hanging. liked the countering fighting. but once i had free roaming in the lil world i didnt like that. and the detective stuff was okay

Great gameplay, a great start of a new IP. Cool setting as well.

I enjoyed it at the time but nothing about this game is particularly enjoyable in 2020.

Seems to be well-made, but it's not my type of game.

It makes you feel like Batman... if Batman was about opening the map constantly. Combat good, certain Batman sections great, Titan fights so, so, so, so bad. I'm curious to see where it goes from here (and mostly excited to switch to Shadow of Mordor, because refusing to kill your enemies is dumb, Batman)

Good game. However like most new gen games. It's long and a lot of parts from going to point A to B not fun to figure out and waste time. Other than that I love the combat system in this game as it was really well done.

Rocksteady rolled a natural 20 with this game, which just rocks (pun not intended) in every way possible. The setting, the voice acting, the way it crams in references to a ridiculous number of character from the canon, the way it COMPLETELY SCREWS YOU OVER with the third round of Scarecrow gas.

There's no challenge, but getting to traipse around the Batman setting is nice for a while, I guess.

Good fun, and, though I'm not particularly into Batman, it used the IP well to hook me as a casual enjoyer.

This game has flaws to be sure. They are not even worth discussing because this game gets one thing very right. This game makes you feel like Batman. That is the entire point and the only strength this game needs to push it into the realm of greatness.

There is a little too much repetition as far as the beat-em-up fighting style and confining levels. However the game is beautiful to look at, Features amazing voice work from legends Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, and finally a truly dark and thrilling Batman game for the true fans.
