The game's main storyline is set five years before that of 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum and follows a younger, less-refined Batman. A bounty is placed on him by crime lord Black Mask, drawing eight of the world's greatest assassins to Gotham City on Christmas Eve. The villains, including the Joker and Anarky, take advantage of the chaos to launch nefarious schemes, while Gotham City police try to apprehend Batman. (wikipedia.org)

Origins was a fine way to wait for the gap between City and Knight, but it's mostly very forgettable. It feels a little stripped down, a little trepidatious. It feels like a hold-over. Nothing is added because, well, that's Rocksteady's department. And it's loaded with bugs and quick-time events. Still, the essence of the franchise is intact, if muted.

If Arkham City was a step forward, Origins was about eight steps back. The controls didn't feel as sharp. The plots felt rehashed. It didn't add too much new.

So. Many. Bugs. It puzzles me how anybody can ram such a tried and proven concept into the ground this hard, but they somehow did.

This gets hated on and I don't get it. It's certainly not the best in the series but it doesn't have any real glaring issues from a gameplay perspective. I understand that it was broken upon release (and was it ever fixed?), but it's still fun. With that said, my save file got corrupted about 15 hours in and I couldn't bring myself to replay those 15 hours right away so I never finished it. I CAN TELL YA THOUGH that I enjoyed those 15 hours until the game decided it didn't enjoy me.

I don't understand how a studio can screw up something so easy to reproduce. I blame it on Troy Baker.

Not as good as the earlier games, but still pretty great with an interesting enough story.

Having played this multiple times, I've grown to appreciate the story more and to accept the visual style even if I don't agree with it. My biggest problem is really with the stupid challenge system, combined with the game being to bugged to registre when you actually do them. A subpar Arkham game, but an Arkham game nonetheless.

Many were unimpressed that WB were releasing a non Rocksteady Batman game that lacked notable evolution as well as well loved voice actors Conroy and Hamill and so Origins was accused of being a cash grab. For me I wasn't bothered that there wasn't any evolution from Arkham City as that was an almost perfect game to begin with. The story here was awesome as were the list of villains to fight against. Some boss fights are better than others, but this was a blast to play through for Batman fans.

Boring boss fights, lacking thriller and many but many bugs and glitches. The worst of the series. But still has some quality in it and its playable. Its decen

There's a lot to like here with its great Arkham gameplay foundation. However, I noticed subtle flaws in combat, and the story tends to meander. There are rookie programming mistakes, like a trophy that becomes unattainable after the beginning. This oversight shows the developers may have been overambitious. Despite these issues, it's still a Batman game, so there's fun to be had.
