Castlevania was a cakewalk compared to this bloody curse. You thought you had the Prince of Darkness defanged - eh, Simon Belmont? Well think again, 'cause according to a damsel in distress, evil Count Dracula has left a horrifying curse in his wake. And the only hope you have of ending the terror is to destroy his missing body parts! Talk about your frightening quest, searching a maze of mansions, graveyards and dark, eerie forests - each guarded by man-eating werewolves, fire-throwing zombies and other devilish demons. Your grim chances are kept alive in Transylvania, where cowardly villagers offer clues to the whereabouts of Dracula's remains. And where you'll purchase magic weapons, including silver knives and flame whips. But beware the night. For when the sun disappears, Dracula's curse grows deadlier. And your chances grow dimmer and dimmer.

The sequel that tried to bring in RPG elements and questing in the way that was very fashionable in this genre at the time; much progress without a guide is unlikely. It can be frustrating in the way that the original Castlevania's gameplay is generally frustrating, but somehow that sort of challenge feels more fun and acceptable in a game with an uncomplicated linear structure.

Too obtuse to possibly beat without guides, though in certain respects it did set Metroidvania precedent that paid off in decades to come.

Terrible as they turned this into a role playing game and made this really complicated to even enjoy this game. I only liked that it turned from day to night and back to day again. My friend used to play this all the time as he was into these type of games when I was a kid.

I understand the game they were trying to make, they just failed. Everything is too unrefined and the RPG aspects don't work. The story is a confusing mess as well.

Simon's Quest is fun in terms of world and structure- there's a lot to explore. But you'll die from awkward maps, knockback, water (because apparently Simon melts), and the hints and clues make so little sense you really need a guide. The endings to how fast you finish the game (a neat concept) seem to be utterly backward. Good, large concept, lots of problems.

Hate the complications, but it's still plenty of fun. And the soundtrack is still just as good. Playing the Redacted version

There's too much bullshit in this game.

Though it's the black sheep of the Castlevania family and its translation is so horrific as to be game-breaking, its innovations, soundtrack and memorable moments are undeniable.
