I'm not much into racers but Crash Team Racing was one of the most refined titles in the genre. The way it handles boosting and drifting is perfect, giving the races a lot of depth and skill to master. Of course, the flavor is great too with an awesome single player adventure and all of the personality you come to expect from a Crash game.

One of the best cart racers out there, CTR manages to punch way above its weight class, into Mario Kart's territory. Fast gameplay, fun powerups, and a pile of cool tracks make CTR one of the more memorable racers of the PS1 era.

The only Mario Kart wannabe that actual rivalled, and against many Mario Kart installments actually bested Mario Kart. Naughty Dog, man. This game proved they were more than platformer developers. And to make that jump to a kart racer? A genre fraught with lame knockoffs and topped only by Nintendo? CTR had great tracks, great items, great controls. If they remastered this with online play, I'd never play anything else again.

Memory serves this as one of the superior PSX racers. I'm also fairly certain playing it now would support this theory.

Started playing this again recently, it has held up so well. Anytime someone walks in on me playing they ask if they can join. I actually got so much into it that I decided to speedrun it semi-causally so look for me on speedrun websites lol

100% stood the test of time. Very snappy, great ideas, great design all around. On Mister (and not on emulation) and a bit overclocked, it's an absolute blast. Requires some skill, but can you have fun regardless? Absolutely.
