E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a game for the Atari 2600. It is based on the film of the same name, and was designed by Howard Scott Warshaw. The objective of the game is to guide the E.T. through a cubic world to collect an interplanetary telephone that will allow him to contact his home planet. E.T. is cited as one of the worst games of all time and one of the biggest commercial failures in video game history, as well as contributing to the video game industry crash of 1983. (wikipedia.org)

If there's a game that deserves a negative score, it's this.

It's not that bad. I've played plenty of Commodore 64 games that were worse.

An unplayable catastrophic failure that at least cosmetically, became the poster child of setting back the entire industry.

Funny story with this one - I was in high school in class when a janitor all of a sudden came in asking if anyone wanted this Atari he found somewhere. My friend rushed to him and managed to nab it, and within it was this catastrophe. When we both saw that this game was a part of the collection, the both of us bursted into hysterical laughter in the classroom, which got the ire of our teacher. That should tell you the sort of legacy this game left behind, and how hilariously bad it is.

Easily the worst game in history. The amount of time I wasted trying to get out of that god dam hole. There were no instructions on how to play the stupid game, and the learning curve was just a straight vertical line. If any game deserves to have a controller thrown at the tv, this is it.

The sad thing is that there were much worse games than this being sold at the time.
