Spoiler warning, I guess? This is by memory from years ago so I might mess up. I thought this started with a lot of potential, especially for the time when this kind of game was more or less unique. Then it went from a mildly supernatural murder mystery to a cult of homeless saviors stopping the world from being buried in snow and somewhere there is a Mayan god fighting the personification of the internet. Also the main character gets magic powers and there's David Cage gratuitous sex.

There was something to the whole "supernatural murder mystery where you're both the killer and the cops working against each other, and neither can make sense of things" angle. I don't really mind that it's not as interactive as it would have you think. Still, between the loopy juvenile fever dream of a script, the laughable attempts at "sexiness", and the unending barrage of trivial QTEs for moments big and small, it's ultimately a goofy package of David Cage's most embarrassing tendencies.

Reads like a middle schooler's Matrix fan fiction. A middle schooler who's an idiot but thinks he's the coolest.

This glorified cutscene's super-self-seriousness is both to its benefit and detriment. It's dumb enough to be fun but also nicely moody. David Cage is the Tommy Wiseau of gaming.

Completely ridiculous. But I do admit it has some kitsch charm. Cage is basically a French Kojima who takes himself to seriously (even more than his Japanese counterpart), but there are some very well-paced tense moments which justify the childish script to some extent. All in all, which is generally an enjoyable experience, albeit a blueprint to what would be much more interesting games

Good game.. Remember liking this one...Forget what the storyline was to this game but was fun too play..All I remember was killing a guy and dragging his body to the toilet..Get a mop and wipe up the blood..Then Police came to investigate and I had to run out of the diner..

It loses its way from a narrative perspective at a certain point but back in 2005 we weren't tired of this type of game and the storytelling was good until it wasn't. I'd still classify it as a good game.

Not really a "game". Occasionally funny in a presumably unintentional manner.

Legitimately exciting and fresh-feeling experience when it released. Child-me enjoyed its absurd plot twists a lot, and I suspect that won't change much if ever were to replay it as an adult, albeit the way in which I find joy in it will definitely be different.

For its time it was pretty unique but with so many games trying to be movies nowadays it comes off as pretty laughable. Even ignoring that the game isn't particularly good - it's filled to the brim with David Cages self-indulgent and melodramatic writing that's impossible to take seriously. In contrast to his later titles, this game is a lot more gamey but the "gameplay" comes off as laughably contrived and mostly superficial crap. Intentionally failing the QTE's is always hilarious though.
