the art and writing are really good. and then there's the game. i tussled and toiled for hours, trying oh so hard to align my spirit with the developer's nonsense logic. in doing so, i trapped a waiter inside a closet so i could freely wreak mayhem in the kitchen, and the game crashed in a paradoxysm of unanticipated player interaction. well, game, if you want me to make a contortionist of myself but shriek and splutter when i bend the "wrong" way, i think i'm going to leave you alone.

Point and click adventure games kinda suck but when the story and writing is this fun you click and you like it.

The point 'n click gameplay may seem too old-fashioned these days, but this is still my favorite (story driven) game of all time.

This is an excellent movie but a horrible video game. Much funner to watch it played through on Youtube than to actually solve the puzzles. What a horrible genre.

REALLY overrated, but still enjoyable. Some of the puzzles in the game were absolute bullshit, making me question how anyone is supposed to figure them out. Aside from that, the main plot introduces interesting themes but generally comes short of using them in a satisfactory way. Still, it has one of the most creative settings in fiction and the cast is charming and funny enough to keep you engaged to the end. I just wish it fully lived up to the potential it sets up for.

Puzzles expand well beyond the story's ability to give the motivations and you reach a point by the second act where you're not trying to solve puzzles so much as advance the game state so there's a new piece to interact with that *might* solve a puzzle hours down the line.

I like the setting and the soundtrack's great, but the usual point-and-click obtuseness is of course there.

Grim Fandango. What can you say? Well, you can say that the control scheme is pretty bad. [Review based on original version. Anybody who describes this game as "point and click" probably played the remaster.]

It has one of the best plots and world building I've ever seen, which alone brought me strenght to go through all the annoying and unintuitive puzzles. The first year had a good puzzle design, but it gets bullshitty quickly.

grim fandango is my favourite game of all time. despite its perplexing puzzle design, its one of the best experiences you can ever get from an art piece. with its world, characters and soundtrack it remains as a strong argument about if videogames are an artform or not.
