Action, Adventure
Link: The Faces of Evil was the product of a compromise between Nintendo and Philips following their failure to release a CD-ROM based add-on to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The Faces of Evil differ from most conventional Zelda games as it is a platformer with a side-scrolling view, similar to The Adventure of Link. Stages are accessed from a world map, with more becoming available as Link clears an area or defeats a boss. The game have been subject to much criticism and Nintendo does not recognize it as part of the series.

All the same problems as The Wand of Gamelon, but this doesn't even have the novelty of playing as Zelda. Only valuable as an object of mockery.

Link: The Faces of Evil is less a game than a balance sheet rendered visible. Stripped of the polish that obscures the culture industry’s standardized nature, it reveals the naked mechanics of IP licensing and geopolitical arbitrage. Crucially, its afterlife as an ironically consumed meme is no populist triumph. Irony merely equips us with a cynical knowingness that sustains the apparatus. In the administered world, there is no outside; even corporate mistakes are endlessly monetized. - Full Review

I've never played this game, but since I have a tattoo of Morshu the shopkeeper on my left forearm, I feel like I should give this game some love, especially being the Youtube Poop goldmine since its rediscovery

Finding a Phillips CD-i and this game at a Goodwill was like discovering a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Unfortunately, this bad game is only fun for a while before the unbelievably bad design takes over and this becomes a mess of utterly unplayable jumping and hilariously bad cut-scenes.

Man, I want to give this a 100 because Youtube Poop is my shit but this game is awful. Aside from the glorious cutscenes, most of the game is a poorly designed, unintuitive mess. It's designed like Zelda 2, but made worse by awful level design and far worse controls. But fuck it, it deserves props just for all the goofy shit that emerged from it through Youtube. I'm glad it exists just because the memery behind it is hilarious.
